Vision


By striving for excellence in education and by engaging with the international community, the ISSE seeks to be an asset to Eindhoven and the Noord-Brabant region.

Mission

The ISSE seeks to:

  • challenge and support students from a wide range of national, cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds to achieve personal excellence within an internationally recognized, student-centred curriculum.
  • provide a safe and supportive school environment which allows students to settle easily and develop a sense of belonging.
  • be open and accountable in its actions, and to involve parents, guardians, teachers and students as partners in the education process.
  • encourage all members of the ISSE community to become life-long learners, open to change, innovation and improvement.
  • encourage students to develop pride in their own cultural and linguistic background, as well as respect for the culture and beliefs of others.
  • foster an appreciation of the language, culture and achievements of the Netherlands.
  • provide all students with opportunities to develop social, creative, physical and leadership skills by engaging in a wide range of activities.

Context

The International Secondary School Eindhoven provides an internationally accredited education in English to children between the ages of 11-19 from the international community in the Eindhoven and Noord-Brabant region. The ISSE is the international department of the Stedelijk College Eindhoven and is one of nine state school sections in the Netherlands that receive government funding to provide international education in the medium of English.

The following are key characteristics of the ISSE:

  • A diverse and mobile student population representing over 40 different nationalities, with an average stay of 2-4 years, and living across a wide catchment area.
  • A student-centered curriculum based on the programmes and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
  • The use of English as our working language, which for many students is an additional language.
  • Broad-based entry, especially in the Middle Years programme, with mixed ability classes.
  • The hiring of staff from a variety of national backgrounds.
  • A reference to standards established in international education around the world.
  • Membership of and active participation in international education bodies such as the European Council of International Schools, the Council of International Schools and the International Baccalaureate.

Organisation

As a department of the Stedelijk College Eindhoven, the ISSE has strong links with Dutch education and is subject to inspection by the Dutch Ministry of Education. The ISSE mission statement incorporates the overarching qualities of the Stedelijk College: transparency, innovation, respect, security and international orientation.
