Assessment & Reporting

Assessment

Assessment is an integral part of learning, involving students in self-assessment and providing feedback on the thinking strategies and processes as well as outcome. Students are assessed on a continuous basis over the course of the programmes. Students are assessed using IBO prescribed criteria and not against other students.

Varied and valid assessment tasks are set that will allow students to demonstrate achievement in each subject. These include open-ended problem solving activities and investigations, organised debates, hands-on experimentation, analysis and reflection. Formative assessment is an integral part of the learning experience, therefore all objectives addressed by specific tasks are shared with the student, with feedback taking place as soon as possible.

Reporting

There are two types of reports at the ISSE.

a) Progress Reports
These are issued at the end of the first and the third term.
These are not full reports but are intended to give an indication of how each student is performing at that time. Students are given an indication of how there are performing academically in each subject by indicative progress grades and how they are performing on a number of different cross-curricular skills in each subject such as meeting deadlines; participation in class etc.
A letter is sent to parents/guardians immediately following these reports for any student that is a concern. A parent-teacher meeting follows the first
progress report.

b) Mid-Year & End-of-Year Reports
These are issued at the end of the second and final term.
These are full reports that show the student’s achievement in each subject, performance in the cross-curricular skills, and comments from each subject teacher.
A letter is sent to parents/guardians immediately following these reports for any student that is a concern. A parent-teacher meeting follows both these reports.
