Areas of Interaction (AoI)
Five perspectives known as the areas of interaction are at the core of the MYP. These pervade and reoccur throughout the five years of the MYP, through the eight subject groups, but also through interdisciplinary teaching and projects, whole school activities and the MYP Personal Project (see below). The areas of interaction are not directly assessed nor awarded individual grades, since they are themes rather than subjects.
The areas of interacion are:
- Approaches to learning (ATL) - It is concerned with the discovery and mastery of skills important for the success in other areas of study, such as study skills.
- Community and Service (C&S) - It stresses the development of the whole person, increasing the students’ awareness of the world by providing them with first-hand experience as well as developing a sense of responsibility and self-esteem.
- Health and Social Education (HSE) - It aims to educate the whole person and prepare the student for a physically and mentally healthy life. It should also develop a sense of responsibility for their own well being and for their physical and social environment.
- Environments (Env) - It stresses the importance of conservation and asks the student to accept responsibility for maintaining a natural world fit for present and future generations.
- Human Ingenuity (HI) - It is concerned with the products of the creative and inventive genius of people and their impact on society.
